What’s New About Black Myth: Wukong

These biomes are subdivided into multiple areas; the game is not an open world, though some large sections with multiple branching paths lead to more enemies and rewards. As I arrive inside, he laps at a large pool of dark water – no not water, it’s blood. All of this should meld together nicely to create a great, shape-shifting action RPG inspired by Dark Souls’ popular combat and Chinese myth.

I suffered numerous crashes on PC (the PlayStation 5 version wasn’t made available for this review), despite having a top-of-the-line setup with a GeForce RTX 4090, not to mention the multiple times I fell through the ground and died just as I was on the verge of defeating a particularly tough boss, or the way characters would randomly switch from English to Chinese, or the way the dialogue audio would drop out all together and leave me completely in the dark during an important cutscene.

Have you heard the exciting news? You now have the chance to experience Black Myth: Wukong completely free of charge! On our website, you can download a CD key for Black Myth: Wukong, allowing you to activate, download, and jump right into the action on the official Steam platform for PC.

This is how I accidentally perform a perfect dodge, causing my enemy to go into slow-mo while I land a good few extra hits, not to mention a ranged heavy attack that knocks him flying immediately. After my enemy snaps out of it, I’m prepared to use Stone Solid – a move that helps me deflect its next attack. Additionally, the game will offer players 72 different abilities to use. The use of advanced lighting and particle effects adds to the game’s immersive quality, making battles feel intense and environments feel alive.

According to the game’s official website, Black Myth: Wukong is the studio’s first attempt to build an Eastern fantasy world revolving around an immersive storyline. Black Myth: Wukong is yet another action RPG inspired by FromSoftware’s Souls games, this time from Chinese developer Game Science. The action role-playing game, developed by Game Science and launched in August, lost to the Japanese game Astro Bot in a tightly competitive list of finalists that included Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, at the awards ceremony in Los Angeles on Thursday local time.

The video gives us a good look at the action role-playing game, showing off fancy snow and ice deformation. However, it gives us another great look at Black Myth: Wukong in action – and great it looks indeed. Black Myth: Wukong, the Chinese-made action game based on Journey to the West that took the internet by storm back in August 2020, has now moved over to Unreal Engine 5, Hangzhou-based developer Game Science Studio confirmed. Finally, if you have one of those juggernauts of computers like a high-end Intel Mac Pro or iMac with a really powerful GPU, then Bootcamp is viable for playing Black Myth: Wukong. That said, the difficulty is well-pitched in Black Myth: Wukong – the encounters were certainly challenging, but victory always felt achievable. Dodging feels blissfully smooth in Black Myth, most likely because I’m not weighed down with heavy armor like my build in Elden Ring.

While Wukong lacks the build diversity of Souls games and most Soulslikes, its combat is refined, tightly designed, and best of all-fun. I suspect the game will be more narrative-driven than the more enigmatic Souls games, but that wasn’t shown in this demo. It’s also worth noting that the game will support Ray Tracing & DLSS 3 at launch. Inspired by the renowned Chinese novel “Journey to the West,” this third-person perspective game has enthralled gamers since its debut. I love the different forms the main character, a take on the Monkey King character popular in the West, can take, and how they’re used in gameplay.

So, if you love Souls games for their rigorously refined combat and bombastic bosses, you’re in for a treat. The staff is a light weapon capable of rapid spins, so where Souls games are considered and methodical, the challenge of Black Myth: Wukong is its faster pace. Perhaps the most memorable part of the Souls series is its bosses, the true test of your skills, and – more importantly – patience. Players must master various skills and strategies to prevail in a fast-paced, fluid fight. Test your skills and strategy as you face powerful foes throughout your journey.
